Laughter Yoga Workshop
Laughter Yoga for Wellbeing at Work
A unique, evidence-informed approach to connection, resilience and team energy
Laughter is one of the most powerful social connectors we have. When teams laugh together, trust builds naturally, energy lifts and the way people relate to one another shifts for the better. Laughter Yoga harnesses these effects intentionally — using guided laughter, breathing techniques and light movement — without relying on jokes, humour or performance.
No one needs to be funny. No one needs to perform. The laughter itself does the work.
Designed for modern workplaces, Laughter Yoga supports both organisational goals and individual wellbeing. It helps teams manage pressure, strengthen communication, increase confidence and build emotional resilience. And because the body cannot distinguish between spontaneous and intentional laughter, the physiological and psychological benefits are the same either way.
What Is Laughter Yoga?
Laughter Yoga was developed by Dr Madan Kataria in 1995 and is now practised in over 100 countries. It combines unconditional laughter — laughter that doesn’t depend on comedy or content — with yogic breathing (pranayama) to create a sustained, full-body experience.
Sessions are led by a trained facilitator and typically involve a sequence of laughter exercises, breathing techniques, gentle movement and moments of stillness. The format is inclusive, adaptable and requires no prior experience of yoga, mindfulness or any other practice.
Within minutes, most participants find that intentional laughter becomes genuine — a natural result of the group energy, the playfulness of the exercises and the permission to simply let go.
The Science Behind the Laughter
Laughter Yoga is grounded in well-established neuroscience and wellbeing research. The benefits are not anecdotal — they are physiological, psychological and social.
When we laugh — whether spontaneously or intentionally — the brain releases a cocktail of feel-good neurochemicals, including endorphins, serotonin and dopamine. These support mood, motivation and a sense of connection. At the same time, the stress hormone cortisol decreases, helping the nervous system move from a state of tension into one of ease.
Regular laughter has also been linked to:
- Improved immune function and reduced susceptibility to illness
- Lower blood pressure and reduced cardiovascular strain
- Enhanced pain tolerance through endorphin release
- Increased oxygen intake, supporting alertness and cognitive performance
- Deeper social bonding through the release of oxytocin
For organisations, this translates directly into reduced stress-related absence, stronger team cohesion and a more energised, engaged workforce.

What to Expect in a Session
Sessions are facilitated, inclusive and designed to meet people where they are. Participants do not need any prior experience, a particular level of fitness or a naturally playful personality.
A typical workshop moves through several phases:
- A warm welcome and brief introduction to the science and practice
- Gentle warm-up exercises to ease the group into the experience
- A sequence of guided laughter exercises, interspersed with breathing
- A period of laughter meditation or free laughter
- Guided relaxation and grounding to close
Sessions can be delivered as a standalone workshop or as part of a broader wellbeing programme. They are suitable for teams of all sizes and can be adapted to suit different settings, time constraints and organisational cultures.
What Attendees Take Away
By the end of a Laughter Yoga session, participants will:
- Feel noticeably lighter, more energised and more connected to their colleagues
- Have experienced a genuine reduction in stress and tension
- Understand the science behind laughter and why it works
- Have a set of simple techniques they can use independently
- Leave with a renewed sense of perspective and motivation
More Than a Workshop
Laughter Yoga offers something that most workplace wellbeing programmes don’t: a shared, embodied experience that people genuinely remember. It’s not a talk about wellbeing — it’s a lived demonstration of it.
Because sometimes the most powerful thing a team can do together is simply laugh.
